The fourth day of the International Festival of Yoga and Meditation (IFYM) 2026, organized by the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), was celebrated amidst the serene and picturesque surroundings of Eco Buddha Park, Sumoor, Nubra Valley, bringing together local residents, students, spiritual practitioners, and international delegates in a vibrant celebration of Yoga, Meditation, and World Peace.
The day began with the participants and delegates of the International Festival of Yoga and Meditation, along with a group of students from Mahabodhi Residential School, travelling from the MIMC Devachan Campus, Leh, to Nubra Valley via the world-famous Khardong La Pass.
During the journey, the participants made a special stop at Khardong La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world, where they offered prayers for global peace and harmony. On the occasion, Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena and Swami Vachananda jointly shared a message from the โTop of the World,โ calling upon people everywhere to embrace the values of peace, compassion, Yoga, and spiritual awareness for the well-being of humanity.
Upon their arrival in Nubra Valley, the delegates and participants were warmly received by members of the local community at Eco Buddha Park, Sumoor. The gathering reflected the spirit of friendship, hospitality, and cooperation that has become a hallmark of the festival over the years.
The programme commenced with a brief introduction to the International Festival of Yoga and Meditation and the significance of conducting Yoga programmes amidst the pristine natural environment of Nubra Valley. This was followed by a refreshing and energizing Yoga session led by Swami Vachananda, during which participants enthusiastically engaged in various Yoga Asanas and practices designed to promote physical health, mental well-being, and inner balance.
Addressing the gathering, Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder-President and Spiritual Director of MIMC, spoke on the importance of Yoga, Meditation, and Spirituality in the lives of people of all ages. He emphasized that in todayโs rapidly changing world, these ancient practices offer effective tools for cultivating inner peace, emotional resilience, compassion, and holistic well-being. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Sumoor and the organizers for their warm hospitality and arrangements. He also extended an invitation to the students and residents of Nubra to visit the MIMC Devachan Campus in Leh and participate in its educational, spiritual, and humanitarian programmes.
A major highlight of the programme was a special Yoga Demonstration Performance by the students of Mahabodhi Residential School, who showcased a series of synchronized Yoga postures accompanied by music. The performance, specially prepared for the International Festival of Yoga and Meditation, was warmly appreciated by the audience.
The students also presented a patriotic song and dance dedicated to the brave men and women of the Indian Army, expressing gratitude for their service and sacrifice in safeguarding the nationโs borders.
Adding a cultural touch to the celebrations, renowned Ladakhi singer Shri Phuntsog Ladakhi enthralled the audience with a beautiful musical performance that reflected the rich cultural heritage and spirit of Ladakh.
Among those present on the occasion were Shri L.P. Namgyal, President, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Nubra; Shri Stanzin Delex, President, Buddha Association, Sumoor; Shri Sonam Dorjey, Nambardar, Sumoor Village; Shri Jigmet J.D., In-Charge, Police Post Panamik; Shri Tsering Sangdup, Former Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh; representatives of Samstan Othsal Tsogspa Sumoor and Ama Tsogspa Sumoor; principals, teachers, and students of Government Higher Secondary School Sumoor, Lamdon Model School Sumoor, and Middle School Sumoor, along with staff members of the Tehsil Office Sumoor, festival delegates, and participants from India and abroad.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting Yoga, Meditation, Peace, and Spirituality while strengthening the bonds between local communities and participants from around the world.
The International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2026 will continue with its forthcoming programmes in Siachen Base Camp, Pangong Lake, and other iconic locations across Ladakh, culminating with the celebration of the International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026.
